The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced on Friday that it has approved an increase in charges for Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cash withdrawals beyond the free monthly usage. Starting May 1, 2025, customers will face an increased fee of Rs 23 per transaction, up from the current Rs 21.
Under the new guidelines, customers will continue to receive five free transactions per month at their own bank’s ATMs, covering both financial and non-financial transactions. They are also entitled to free transactions at other banks’ ATMs—three in metro centres and five in non-metro centres.
The revised charges will also apply to transactions at cash recycler machines, although cash deposits will remain exempt from the fee increase.
The RBI’s circular stated that any transaction beyond the free limit will be subject to the new maximum fee of Rs 23.
