Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Indian actress Vaani Kapoor have expressed deep sorrow over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. This is said to be the deadliest attack in the region since the Pulwama tragedy in 2019.
Fawad, who is making a comeback to Bollywood after nearly nine years with the film “Abir Gulaal”, posted on Instagram:
“Deeply saddened to hear the news of the heinous attack in Pahalgam. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
Vaani Kapoor also shared her feelings on Instagram, writing:
“Have been numb, at a loss of words… Gutted. Devastated. My prayers are with the families.”
Boycott Call Grows
Their messages came as pressure increases to ban “Abir Gulaal” due to Fawad Khan’s involvement. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which represents over 5 lakh film industry workers, has repeated its call for a complete ban on Pakistani artists.
FWICE had first issued this directive after the 2019 Pulwama attack and has now renewed it, saying:
“In light of the Pahalgam attack, we are again issuing a blanket boycott of all Pakistani artists, singers, and technicians in Indian films or events — anywhere in the world.”
The union also warned of disciplinary action against any Indian filmmaker or technician who works with Pakistani talent.
“Abir Gulaal” is scheduled to release on May 9, but with the growing backlash, its future remains uncertain.
