Washington DC : Tech billionaire Elon Musk criticized the New York Times on Friday in a post on X, shortly after former President Donald Trump also challenged the publication for allegedly spreading false information regarding Musk’s visit to the Pentagon.
Musk’s post emphasized his discontent, stating, “The New York Times is pure propaganda. Also, I look forward to the prosecutions of those at the Pentagon who are leaking maliciously false information to NYT. They will be found.”
The New York Times had reported that the US Department of Defense planned to brief Musk on strategies related to a potential conflict with China. The report suggested that this access would significantly expand Musk’s role in government, raising concerns about conflicts of interest due to his position as a leading supplier to the Pentagon and his financial ties to China.
According to the NYT, Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was scheduled to receive a briefing on Friday from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and top US generals. This classified session was reported to include about 20 to 30 slides detailing various options for military action against China.
However, Pentagon officials and Trump refuted the claims, labeling the report as “fake.” Trump took to social media to assert, “China will not even be mentioned or discussed. The Fake News is at it again, this time the Failing New York Times.” He continued, “They said, incorrectly, that Elon Musk is going to the Pentagon tomorrow to be briefed on any potential ‘war with China.’ How ridiculous? The story is completely untrue!!!”
The exchange highlights the growing tension between high-profile figures and media outlets over the accuracy of reporting, particularly regarding national security and international relations.
