Case of ASI’s death in Ludhiana’s DIG House: DSP says – Not suicide, but a shot fired by mistake while cleaning the revolver.


The police statement regarding the death of an ASI who was shot while on duty at the government residence in Ludhiana’s DIG Range has finally surfaced. The Ludhiana Rural police are referring to this incident as an accident and are not considering it to be suicide.

According to DSP Varinder Singh Khosa, this case does not seem to be a suicide based on the preliminary inquiry. Unintentionally, the bullet struck the ASI. The investigation thus far points to an accident. However, the authorities are currently probing the nuances of the case. Based on the information uncovered by the inquiry, additional steps will be taken.

The bullet fired The dead has been identified as ASI Teerath Singh (50), a resident of Kelpur village (Ludhiana), according to DSP Varinder Singh Khosa, a Cleaning Service Revolver with Two Colleagues Present. He was assigned to the DIG Range as a Miscellaneous Store Keeper (MSK).

He found himself at his quarters at about four in the morning. Two additional police officers were on duty nearby at the time. When Teerath Singh was first questioned, it was discovered that he was cleaning his service pistol when an unintentional shot went off and struck his skull, instantly killing him.

Colleagues’ Statements Obtained
According to DSP Khosa, although there have been some media rumours mentioning suicide, the investigation has not yet turned up any evidence of it. He claimed that all of his coworkers’ statements had been recorded. The facts that have emerged so far clearly point to an accident. At this moment, no angle of suicide is apparent.

Wife Questioned, Children Informed
The deceased’s wife is a housewife and lives in Kelpur village. The police have informed his three children—one son and two daughters who live in Canada—about the incident.

The DSP stated that the wife is also being questioned, and further action will be taken based on her statement.

Wife Interrogated, Kids Told
The deceased’s spouse resides in Kelpur village and is a homemaker. According to information provided by the authorities, Teerath Singh had three children: two daughters and a boy who now reside in Canada. The incident has been communicated to them.

According to the DSP, the wife is also being questioned, and in light of her comments, more action will be taken. When the deceased’s children return from their trip overseas, the post-mortem will be performed.

To be clear, technical investigation is the truth.
DSP Khosa added that the post-mortem report and technological inquiry will make it obvious from what distance and how the bullet was shot. “It will only be decided by the post-mortem report whether this was a complete accident or something else.”
