The Central GST department in Ludhiana has exposed a major tax evasion case worth ₹62 crore involving several companies in the audio-video production industry. On Thursday, officials revealed that two individuals connected with the management of these companies have been arrested so far.
Initial investigations suggest that these firms evaded GST by importing services worth ₹342 crore from foreign companies without fulfilling any mandatory GST documentation. This deliberate non-compliance highlights the scale and seriousness of the fraud.
Officials confirmed that many other businesses in this sector are still under the scanner. The Central GST Commissionerate of Ludhiana emphasized its commitment to cracking down on fraud and ensuring fair practices for honest taxpayers.
In a related case earlier this week CGST teams carried out searches in Mandi Gobindgarh and Fatehgarh Sahib. They busted a racket that created five fake companies in the iron and steel sector to wrongfully claim Input Tax Credit (ITC).
Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full network and extent of the evasion in both cases.
