India has banned all goods coming from Pakistan with immediate effect. The order was issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The ban applies to both direct and indirect imports or transit of goods that are made in or sent from Pakistan. The government said this step has been taken to protect national security and public interest. Any exceptions to this ban will need special approval from the Indian government.
This decision comes after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 tourists lost their lives. It is part of India’s response to the incident.
India has also changed its Foreign Trade Policy 2023 to include this ban.
India usually exports items like cotton, chemicals, tea, spices, and medicines to Pakistan. It imports things like fruits, nuts, cotton, chemicals, plastic, and copper from Pakistan. All of this trade is now stopped until further notice.
