Announcing the decision from the White House’s Rose Garden, Trump called April 2, 2025, a “historic moment” for American industry. “We are making America wealthy again,” he declared, holding up a chart comparing US import duties with those imposed by countries like ਭਾਰਤ, China, and the EU.
Trump pointed out that while the US has charged only 2.4% tariffs on motorcycles, ਭਾਰਤ has imposed 70%, Vietnam 75%, and Thailand 60%. He claimed that ਭਾਰਤ’s total import duties, currency policies, and trade barriers add up to 52%, justifying the new 27% US tariff on Indian exports.

While the new tariffs are expected to affect ਭਾਰਤ’s exports, officials say that compared to competitors like Vietnam, China, and Indonesia, ਭਾਰਤ is in a better position.
