Massive Fire Breaks Out at Godown Near Pakhowal Road

A massive fire broke out at a godown near the skating zone and railway lines on Pakhowal Road on Sunday evening, causing thick smoke to engulf the entire area. The smoke was visible as far as Ferozepur Road and Civil Lines, creating a wave of panic among residents and commuters.

The godown, owned by a private company involved in the Smart City project, was reportedly storing pipes, wires, and other materials, all of which were reduced to ashes in minutes due to the intensity of the blaze. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

As of the time of reporting, firefighters had not been able to completely douse the flames. Fire tenders from all six fire stations were dispatched to control the situation, with additional staff and approximately 12 vehicles sent to the site.

Rahul Kumar, a local resident, described how thick smoke rapidly spread across the sky as he was returning home near Malhar Road. The fire caused panic in the area, with residents and commuters pulling out their phones to record videos of the blaze. The fire occurred opposite Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School in Sarabha Nagar, a location that added to the concerns of nearby residents.

Gaurav, a domestic helper living near the fire site in Sarabha Nagar, shared that the fire triggered widespread panic. Many commuters diverted to alternate routes to avoid the affected area.

Efforts are ongoing to control the situation and assess the full extent of the damage.
