Amid the viral ‘blue drum’ memes following the Meerut murder case, a similar disturbing incident has surfaced from Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda. A woman allegedly threatened her husband, saying she would chop him into pieces and pack him in a drum, mirroring the recent tragedy in Meerut.
A video of the shocking incident went viral on social media. The police received complaints from both parties on Saturday, and an investigation is underway, with action to follow, according to officials on Sunday.
The husband, Junior Engineer Dharmendra Kushwaha, originally from Jhansi and working for the Jal Nigam in Gonda, accused his wife, Maya Maurya, and her alleged lover, Neeraj Maurya, of assault and threats to his life. Kushwaha said he married Maya in 2016 and, after the birth of their daughter, purchased vehicles and land in her name. In 2022, he gave Neeraj the contract for house construction, unaware that Neeraj and Maya were becoming romantically involved after Neeraj’s wife died during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kushwaha claimed that when he protested, he was beaten by Maya and left by her. Later, on August 25, 2024, Maya and Neeraj returned, broke into the house, and stole gold and cash worth 15 grams. Kushwaha filed a complaint on September 1, 2024, regarding the theft.
On March 29, 2025, Maya allegedly threatened to kill Kushwaha’s mother. When he objected, she and Neeraj reportedly beat both him and his mother. According to Kushwaha, during the altercation, Maya threatened, “If you say too much, I will get you chopped and packed in a drum like the Meerut massacre.”
Maya, however, denied the allegations, accusing Kushwaha of harassment and claiming that he forced her to undergo multiple abortions. She also alleged that he physically abused her in July 2024, after which she filed a report at the women’s police station. She stated that Kushwaha then filed for divorce and forced her out of their home.
Kotwali Police Station SHO Vivek Trivedi confirmed that multiple legal cases between the couple were already underway. He added that an investigation into the recent incident was ongoing, and CCTV footage was being examined.
