With the implementation of new regulations by the U.S. State Department, non-immigrant visa applicants—including those from India—must apply for their visas in their nation of citizenship or lawful residency. The practice of Indian people travelling abroad in order to expedite their visa interview appointment is essentially discontinued by this policy change. The majority of visa interview waivers are eliminated under the new regulations, which are part of a larger set of more stringent immigration procedures. As a result, almost all applicants must now appear in person for an interview. Longer wait times for visa appointments in India are anticipated as a result.
