On Monday, the Vigilance Bureau took senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia to different places in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh’s Mashobra. This was done to gather evidence in a case related to his alleged disproportionate assets.
Majithia was arrested from his home in Amritsar on June 25. A Mohali court had sent him on a 7-day Vigilance remand, which will end on July 2. He will be presented in court again on that day.
Meanwhile, two other people—Amritsar politician Manjinder Bittu Aulakh and businessman Jagjit Chahal—visited the Vigilance Bureau headquarters and gave their statements. Both of them were previously booked in drug-related cases in 2013.
Jagjit Chahal criticized the investigation, saying, “Since 2013, five to six special teams were made but no one properly investigated. The government is just putting on a show.”
Bittu Aulakh said they were questioned about money matters and property links with Majithia, and they gave their answers. He also demanded a deeper probe into the role of police officer Hardyal Mann, saying, “If his assets had been checked, many things would have become clear.”
