Veterinary Students Boot Polish in Ludhiana: Demand Recruitment Process to Start, Say—Increase Stipend or Hunger Strike Will Continue.

Placards and boot polishing are two ways that students show their anger.

Today marks the 33rd day of the sit-in protest organized by the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana’s Agriculture Students Association, which is demanding that open positions in agriculture and related disciplines be filled. Students held a large gathering and polished their boots as a way to vent their resentment towards the government.

According to the students, they have also begun an ongoing hunger strike. Eight kids are on a hunger strike today.

The students expressed their dissatisfaction with the Punjab government’s disregard for the opinions of the Agricultural University students. They declared that they would not give up on their fight for their rights, regardless of how long the protest lasted—three or six months.

Students’ Deep Resentment Because of the Government’s Ignorance
The students were told that the Punjab government does not contribute to the present stipend, which is given jointly by the University and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The students threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike (Aamran Anashan) in the days ahead if the government did not take notice of their demands.

They said that no university representative would be contacting the students to meet them if the administration remained silent this time around as well. We are polishing boots today because the government has ordered us to. We have tea and lemonade for sale.
