US and India Discuss Trade Barriers and Cooperation Ahead of Tariff Deadline

US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau recently had a discussion with Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to address efforts aimed at reducing trade barriers, ahead of the April 2 deadline for reciprocal tariffs set by US President Donald Trump.

The talks come after Trump threatened to impose tariffs on countries, including India. According to US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, the two officials discussed ways to lower trade barriers and work towards a fair and balanced trade relationship between the two nations. They also explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration in defence, technology, and enhancing security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

Landau expressed gratitude for India’s support in tackling illegal immigration to the United States and encouraged continued cooperation on this matter.

Meanwhile, US Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, Brendan Lynch, is wrapping up his five-day visit to India, where he engaged in discussions with Rajesh Aggarwal from the Ministry of Commerce about tariff-related issues.
