Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu has accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of “staging a drama” over the river water sharing issue. Bittu assured that Punjab’s water will not be given to other states by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
This comes after BBMB decided to release 8,500 cusecs of water from the Bhakra Dam to Haryana, a move strongly opposed by Punjab. Bittu claimed that Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan were pressuring for this decision, and said Mann’s response was politically motivated.
Bittu, who has been involved in BBMB meetings as a former MP, said he spoke directly with BBMB’s Chairman, who confirmed that no additional water from Punjab’s share would be released.
He also noted that the water-sharing issue is already being handled by the Supreme Court. Bittu emphasized that Punjab’s rightful share of water will not be given to any other state.
