Trump Says US Close to Finalizing Trade Deal with India

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that America is close to signing a trade deal with India. He made the comment while talking to reporters on Air Force One during his trip to Michigan, where he was giving a speech to mark 100 days of his presidency.

“India is coming along great. I think we’ll have a deal with India,” Trump said.

Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also told reporters that talks with India are going well. He said both countries are very close to finalizing the deal.

Bessent explained that India is easier to negotiate with because its trade tariffs are clearly listed. “It’s easier to deal with direct tariffs than hidden trade barriers,” he said. He added that India’s straightforward approach helps move the talks faster.

When asked about trade negotiations with Asian countries like India, Japan, and South Korea, Bessent said they have all shown interest in making deals. He also mentioned that Vice President Vance recently visited India and had positive talks with Prime Minister Modi.

Bessent said he expects announcements soon regarding trade deals with India and possibly with South Korea and Japan as well.
