Former US President Donald Trump has said that Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s businesses would not survive without help from the government. He claimed that if subsidies were stopped, Musk might have to shut down his companies and return to South Africa.
Trump shared his views on his social media platform, Truth Social. He said, “Electric cars are okay, but people should not be forced to buy them.” He added that he was always against the electric vehicle (EV) mandate and asked the Department of Government Efficiency to review the money given to Musk.
Trump also claimed, “Elon may get more subsidies than any human in history. Without them, there would be no rocket launches, satellites, or electric cars, and the country would save a lot of money.”
These comments came after Elon Musk criticised Trump’s new bill that raises the US debt ceiling by \$5 trillion. Musk called it “insane spending” and said the US now seems to have only one political party, which he called the “Porky Pig Party.”
Musk also questioned Republican leaders for supporting the bill, saying it would hurt their party in future elections. He added that the bill is “political suicide” for Republicans.
The tensions between Trump and Musk have grown in recent years. Musk had earlier supported Trump but later criticised him, even calling for his impeachment and connecting him to the Jeffrey Epstein case.
