US President Donald Trump has again claimed that he helped stop a serious conflict between India and Pakistan in May. Speaking at a dinner with Republican senators, Trump said that five fighter jets were shot down during the clash. However, he did not say whether they belonged to India, Pakistan, or both.
Trump said the fighting between the two nuclear countries was getting worse and could have turned into a big war. He claimed that his government helped calm things down by using trade talks as pressure. According to Trump, the US told both countries that trade deals would only happen if they stopped using weapons.
India has rejected Trump’s claim. The Indian government says the two countries ended the military actions through direct talks between their armies, with no US help.
The conflict began after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. In response, India launched “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan-controlled areas. A Pakistan-based terror group, The Resistance Front (TRF), claimed responsibility for the attack.
The clashes between India and Pakistan lasted for four days and ended on May 10.
Recently, the US officially declared TRF a foreign terrorist group. India welcomed this move.
