Sukhbir Badal’s Attacker, Narain Singh Chaura, Granted Bail

A court has granted bail to Narain Singh Chaura, a Khalistani sympathizer, who was accused of attempting to assassinate former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. The 70-year-old Chaura has been asked to pay a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh. His family is expected to complete the bail process, and he may be released from the Ropal Central Jail tomorrow.

The incident took place on December 4, when Badal was performing a religious punishment at the Golden Temple. The Akal Takht, the highest authority for Sikhs, had found Badal and other Akali leaders guilty of mistakes during their rule from 2007 to 2017, which upset the Sikh community.

Chaura’s lawyer, Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, confirmed the bail, despite police objections. The police argued that Chaura had been involved in 28 previous cases. However, Chaura’s lawyer stated that he had been acquitted in all of those cases.
