Former Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal has gone to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He says the investigation into an alleged attack on him at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on December 4, 2024, is unfair and influenced by politics.
Badal says he was doing “sewa” (voluntary service) when the attack happened, but his security team stopped it in time. In his petition, filed by his lawyers Arshdeep Singh and Arshdeep Singh Kler, he claims the police tried to downplay the seriousness of the case.
He pointed out that, the FIR was filed late and based on the statement of someone who didn’t witness the incident. His own statement was never recorded. The accused, who has a criminal background and is linked to terrorism, got bail because of police mistakes.CCTV footage and witness statements show that more people may have been involved, but they were not properly investigated.
Badal believes the police are working under political pressure and not doing a fair investigation. He has asked the court to hand over the case to an independent agency for a proper and unbiased inquiry.
