Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the sharing of Punjab’s river waters not a dispute, but a “loot” against the people of Punjab.
Badal warned that if Punjab’s long-standing issues are not addressed, it could lead to unrest like in the past, which affected the state for over two decades. He urged the Prime Minister to resolve Punjab’s water-related grievances with fairness, just like in other inter-state disputes. He said, “Punjabis are not asking for favours, they are only asking for justice.”
Sukhbir also criticised Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of weakening Punjab’s stand by promising to give river water to Haryana and Rajasthan. He said the CM is being double-faced and playing with a serious issue.
Badal asked the central government to make solving Punjab’s problems a national priority to prevent future troubles.
