The process to provide approximately ₹6.86 crore in subsidies for the purchase of agricultural machinery for stubble management is underway.

• Farmers are invited to contribute to environmental protection through stubble management.

Subsidised agricultural equipment is being given to farmers in the Fatehgarh Sahib area, either individually or in groups, to help them manage their paddy stubble. To encourage more farmers to use agricultural machinery for stubble management this season, the district administration is conducting awareness campaigns through the Department of Cooperation and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.

Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Gurnam Singh gave information in response to directives from Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind, indicating that farmers are receiving a subsidy of about 6.86 crore for the purchase of 187 agricultural machines for stubble management during the current fiscal year. He went on to say that sanction letters had been provided following the completion of the physical verification process for the subsidy and that the process of transferring the subsidy to the individual farmers’ bank accounts was underway.

Dr Gurnam Singh, the Chief Agriculture Officer, suggested that farmers improve soil fertility by incorporating crop debris into the fields rather than burning it. According to him, the following devices are being offered at a reduced cost for the management of stubble:

Thirteen balers

Thirteen rakes

28 MB ploughs

Sixty super seeders

Twenty-six mulchers

Three helicopters

Nineteen zero-till drills

Twenty-five tractors

This season, he urged farmers to step up and use agricultural equipment to control stubble. Additionally, he encouraged people to help preserve the environment by spreading the word about the advantages of managing their stubble.
