“Special session on floods from today; Opposition will surround the government over law and order and flood issues.”
The Punjab Assembly has begun a special session in Chandigarh to discuss the state’s flooding problem. Since the Aam Aadmi Party government will have to respond to the opposition on matters of law and order and flood relief, the session is anticipated to be highly controversial.
Kultar Singh Sandhwan, the assembly speaker, has issued directives to guarantee that the house’s operations go smoothly and that MLAs uphold discipline.
Even though the state relies on the Central Meteorological Department’s (IMD) estimates for rainfall, a minister has questioned the IMD’s prediction, saying that more rain has fallen in Punjab than expected. He went on to say that all of the water from Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh had entered the Punjabi rivers.
During the session, the irrigation minister will shortly make a suggestion on the subject.
Prior to this, the house honoured a number of departed persons, such as Punjabi comedian Jaswinder Bhalla, former MP Harpal Tohra, Punjabi music maestro Charanjit Ahuja, and others. September 26 marked the start of the session, which will last through September 29.
According to the article, 2,565 humans and 3.90 lakh livestock perished as a result of the monsoon’s effects on 23 districts in the state. Following the reading of a sympathy motion for the dead, there was a two-minute pause.
