Shock to Shiromani Akali Dal: Senior leader Jagdeep Cheema to join BJP; family was associated with SAD for 5 decades.
Jagdeep Singh Cheema, the senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, has resigned from the SAD and will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. He will be inducted into the BJP by Ashwani Sharma, the working president.
Vineet Joshi, a BJP leader, claims that Jagdeep Cheema’s family has been affiliated with the Shiromani Akali Dal for four generations. His father, Randhir Singh Cheema, served as a member of the SGPC for fifty years and served as Punjab’s cabinet minister three times. In the 2012 and 2022 elections, he ran as the Shiromani Akali Dal’s candidate from Fatehgarh Sahib.
Minister Ravneet Bittu and Nayab Singh Saini will be in attendance.
BJP Working President Ashwani Sharma will induct Jagdeep Singh Cheema into the party. Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will be in attendance at this occasion.
