On Sunday, a havan was organized at Naughara Mohalla, the birthplace of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar, by the Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust, in observance of Shaheedi Diwas. The event marked the solemn occasion of the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru, who were hanged by the British government on March 23, 1931, in Lahore Central Jail.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur, who attended the havan, emphasized the importance of Shaheedi Diwas, not just as a day to remember the martyrs, but also as a time for reflection on the values of patriotism, justice, and national unity. She remarked, “As the country celebrates this significant day, it serves as a reminder that the ideals of these brave individuals must continue to guide the nation towards progress, equality, and a bright future.”
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora also paid his respects by visiting Jagraon Bridge and laying wreaths before the statues of the three martyrs. Reflecting on their sacrifices, Arora stated, “We should never forget our martyrs, as we enjoy freedom today due to their sacrifices.” He further emphasized that the three young revolutionaries, who gave up their lives at a tender age, left a legacy that now requires each citizen to contribute towards national unity and integration.
The day served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the martyrs and the ongoing responsibility of citizens to uphold the values they fought for.
