SGPC Chief Election Today: SAD-Amritsar Starts Protest; Contest Between Harjinder Dhami and Mithu Singh Kahneke.
The election for the President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is going to be held today. This election will take place in the Teja Singh Samundri Hall located inside the Golden Temple complex. The Shiromani Akali Dal has once again given its support to Harjinder Singh Dhami for this post. On the other hand, Mithu Singh Kahneke has been declared the candidate from the Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjit (reorganised) faction.
Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal had already nominated Harjinder Singh Dhami for this position for the 5th time yesterday. Now, Mithu Singh Kahneke is the candidate from Shiromani Akali Dal (reorganised).

Prior to this poll, the revitalized Akali Dal also met on Sunday. However, it was unclear who they would back. The present Jathedar and Pradhan Giani Harpreet Singh presided over the meeting. The gathering was also attended by a number of SGPC members.

During the election process, Jathedars of the five Takhts and SGPC members were seated on the stage.
