Secretary of Fisheries, Abhilaksh Likhi, visits RAS Unit located at Daulatpur
Bassi Pathana/Fatehgarh Sahib, October 16:
Dr Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary of the Department of Fisheries, visited the Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) Unit of innovative fish farmer Amiteshwar Singh Gill at Daulatpur village of Bassi Pathana block. He spoke extensively with Amiteshwar Singh Gill, a progressive fish farmer, on the unit’s application of modern techniques.
He claimed that Amiteshwar Singh Gill, a prosperous fish farmer, is a forward-thinking fish farmer who has embraced a new, contemporary method of fish farming in place of more conventional methods. Fish are raised in tanks using this method, which uses less water and space and produces more fish in less space. ‘With its technologically sophisticated filtration and recirculation system,’ he said, ‘this successful fish farmer’s unit is a great example of sustainable and high-quality fish farming in Punjab.’ He claimed that by employing this method in place of conventional fish farming and generating exceptional production, Amiteshwar Singh Gill has set an example.
Dr. Likhi spoke with local fish farmers, technical staff, and department officials while reviewing the different programmes and initiatives being managed by the Department of Fisheries. Dr Likhi applauded Amiteshwar Singh Gill’s innovative and inventive endeavours and urged enterprising farmers like him to play a part in revolutionising scientific fish farming. He highlighted the importance of fish farming in boosting rural employment and income.
He was appreciative of the initiatives taken to encourage fish farming in Punjab. He told us that programmes like the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana are being used by the Central Government to improve the infrastructure for fish farming. He was also informed about the difficulties in managing the RAS unit. He expressed his happiness with Punjab’s fisheries sector’s growth and pledged his full support for such development initiatives in the future.
Mr. Gurpreet Singh, the Fisheries Department’s Director-cum-Warden, and Mrs. Rashu Mehandiratta, the Assistant Director of Fisheries, were in attendance on this particular occasion, along with other local officers, employees, and fish farmers.
