Second day of lawyers’ strike in Ludhiana: Demand to cancel case registered against Councillor Himanshu; support from Punjab and Haryana Bar possible.
Tuesday saw the continuation of the attorneys’ strike in Jagraon, Punjab’s Ludhiana. The attorneys are requesting that the prosecution against attorney-counsellor Himanshu Malik be dropped. The attorneys sent SSP Dr Ankur Gupta a demand letter on Monday. Within two days, they have urged that the lawsuit be cancelled.
This issue dates back around two months. A disagreement broke out between BJP Councillor Satish Kumar Pappu and Councillor Himanshu Malik at a Municipal Council House meeting. Satish Kumar stood up and approached Himanshu Malik. Malik shoved him away at this.
Both councillors were admitted to a government hospital following this incident. During the police inquiry, it was discovered that Satish Kumar’s accusations against Malik were untrue. Nevertheless, the police filed a case against Malik due to political pressure.
“Councillor Advocate Himanshu Malik has received backing from the Bar Association. The Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh Bar Associations may go on strike if the police do not drop the case.
