Rahul Gandhi Vows to Revive Congress in Gujarat, Launches Major Party Reforms

Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament and senior Congress leader, admitted that Congress workers in Gujarat are feeling low and demoralized, as the party has been out of power in the state for nearly 30 years. But during a visit to Modasa in Aravalli district on Wednesday, he said that only Congress can defeat the BJP and RSS, and promised to revamp the party from the ground up in the state.

Rahul was in Gujarat for the second time in a week to launch a pilot project aimed at strengthening district-level units of the Congress. He said that inactive leaders, or those secretly working for the BJP, will be removed, and more power will be given to district-level teams.

Rahul compared different types of leaders in a humorous way, saying some are like racehorses, some like wedding horses, and others are injured horses. He said the party fails when racehorses are made to dance in weddings and wedding horses are sent to run races. He stressed that the right people need to be in the right roles.

The party has set up a five-member committee to visit each district and choose new district presidents based on local feedback. These leaders will also help pick election candidates, and Rahul made it clear that decisions will now be taken by the organization, not by “people from above”.

Rahul also said that leaders who are only seen during elections will not be trusted. He promised to promote young, active leaders who stay connected with people.

During his interaction, a local worker complained that Congress leaders only show up 10 days before elections and then disappear. Rahul agreed that senior leaders’ performance isn’t tracked right now, but said that from now on, the party will start checking how many booths a leader helps win.

He ended by saying that if Congress forms a government in Gujarat, the best-performing district president will be made a minister, as the party wants to reward hard work and dedication.
