Rahul Gandhi Questions Government on China and US Tariffs in Lok Sabha

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday raised concerns in the Lok Sabha over China’s occupation of Indian territory and the impact of US tariffs on the Indian economy. He claimed that China has taken over 4,000 square kilometers of Indian land and criticized the government for celebrating 75 years of diplomatic ties with China despite this situation.

Gandhi questioned the government over a recent event where India’s foreign secretary was seen cutting a cake with the Chinese ambassador. He also referred to the Galwan Valley clash of 2020, where 20 Indian soldiers were martyred, and demanded clarity on efforts to reclaim Indian territory.

Additionally, Gandhi expressed alarm over the US decision to impose 27% reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods, warning that this could severely damage industries such as automobiles, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. He urged the government to provide answers on how it plans to handle both the territorial issue with China and the economic challenge posed by the US tariffs.

The US has justified the tariffs by claiming that India imposes high import duties on American products.
