Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took a dig at Prime ਮੰਤਰੀ Narendra Modi regarding the ongoing Indo-US trade deal, responding to Commerce ਮੰਤਰੀ Piyush Goyal’s statement that ਭਾਰਤ would not enter into any agreement under deadlines.
Goyal had said on Friday that ਭਾਰਤ would only accept the proposed trade deal with the United States when it is fully finalized and aligns with the national interest. He emphasized that Free Trade Agreements should be mutually beneficial and result in a win-win situation for both countries.
However, Rahul Gandhi was skeptical, posting on X, “Piyush Goyal can beat his chest all he wants, mark my words, Modi will meekly bow to the Trump tariff deadline.”
The Congress party has been critical of PM Modi for his silence and perceived inaction regarding US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims about stopping tensions between ਭਾਰਤ and Pakistan, especially after the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
The United States has reportedly set a deadline of July 9 to finalize the trade agreement with ਭਾਰਤ. Commerce ਮੰਤਰੀ Goyal reiterated that ਭਾਰਤ’s national interest will always remain supreme and that the country is open to deals with developed nations only if they are favorable.
