Rachel Gupta Steps Down as Miss Grand International, Cites Mistreatment and Broken Promises

Rachel Gupta, the first Indian to win the Miss Grand International title, has stepped down less than a year after her historic win. The 20-year-old model from Jalandhar shared the news on Wednesday, saying she faced “broken promises, mistreatment, and a toxic environment” during her time with the organisation.

Rachel had won the international crown on October 25, 2024, in a grand ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand. Before that, she had won the Miss Grand India 2024 title, which gave her a chance to represent India on the global stage.

In an emotional message to her fans, Rachel said it was a tough decision but necessary for her well-being. “This dream that I worked so hard for turned into a painful experience,” she wrote. “I was proud to represent India, but what I received in return was silence, disrespect, and neglect.” She also mentioned that she will soon release a video to explain everything in detail.

Meanwhile, the Miss Grand International Organisation shared their own version of the story. In an Instagram post, they claimed Rachel broke her contract by working on outside projects without permission and refusing to attend an official trip to Guatemala. They said she failed to meet her duties as Miss Grand International.

The organisation added, “Rachel Gupta’s title is officially terminated, and she must return the crown within 30 days.”

Rachel first became popular in 2022 when she won the Miss Super Talent of the World title in Paris at the age of 18. She quickly became a rising star in the Indian fashion and pageant world, known for her grace and confidence.

Rachel’s family said she will soon hold a press conference to share her full story and will post an official statement on her social media platforms.
