Punjab to Build 20,000 km of Link Roads with Rs 4,000 Crore Budget

In a major infrastructure push, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has approved the construction of 20,000 km of link roads across the state. The ambitious project will be carried out with a budget of Rs 4,000 crore and is aimed at improving rural connectivity, facilitating the movement of goods, and boosting economic growth in the state’s rural areas.

The Chief Minister said that most of the existing link roads have not been repaired or rebuilt in over six years, far beyond their intended lifespan. Emphasising the urgency of the project, Mann directed authorities to begin work on a need-based priority system, classifying roads as top priority, priority, and needy.

An on-ground survey will be conducted to identify which roads require immediate attention. The PWD and Mandi Board have been instructed to ensure transparent and judicious spending. Contractors involved in the project will also be held responsible for the maintenance of the roads for five years after construction.

To ensure high standards and efficient execution, the government will incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the planning and monitoring of the project. This will help identify real-time requirements and ensure optimal use of resources.

CM Mann said the initiative will play a crucial role in improving connectivity in rural Punjab, ultimately supporting economic development and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
