Punjab Police Now Has Record 20 DGP-Rank Officers, Highest in State’s History

Punjab Police has become top-heavy, with a record 20 officers now holding the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) — the highest number ever in the state’s history.

On Monday, eight IPS officers from the 1994 batch were promoted from the rank of Additional DGP to DGP. The officers promoted include Dr Naresh Kumar, Ram Singh, Sudhanshu Shekhar Srivastava, Praveen Kumar Sinha, B Chandra Sekhar, Amardeep Singh Rai, Neeraja Voruvuru, and Anita Punj.

Despite the promotions, Gaurav Yadav continues to serve as the DGP and head of the Punjab Police force. With this latest round of promotions, Punjab now has an unusually high number of top-ranking police officers, raising questions about the functional need and administrative efficiency of such a large number of DGPs in the state police structure.
