Punjab Minister Harpal Cheema Calls FIR Against Him Politically Motivated

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday said the case filed against him and AAP state chief Aman Arora was “politically motivated.”

The FIR was registered by Chandigarh Police after a complaint from Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa. Bajwa claimed that a video he posted on social media, where he criticised officials for mistreating SAD MLA Ganieve Kaur, was edited and shared by AAP to wrongly show he supported Bikram Singh Majithia, the arrested husband of the MLA.

Bajwa also wanted FIRs filed against AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann, Cheema, and Arora, saying the “fake” video was shared from AAP’s official social media accounts.

Cheema responded by saying the BJP-led Central government was using the Chandigarh Police to target AAP leaders. He said while the police acted quickly in this case, over 7,000 real complaints—many involving fraud and cybercrime—were still pending.

He accused the BJP and Congress of working together to file false cases against AAP, and claimed they were trying to stop AAP’s efforts to fight drug mafias and gangsters.

Cheema said AAP leaders are not afraid of legal action and will continue speaking the truth and taking action against crime in Punjab.
