A 35-year-old man from Punjab has been arrested for giving false information to the Mumbai Police about a death threat to Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, a police official said on Tuesday.
The man, identified as Manish Kumar Sujinder Singh, had called the Mumbai Police control room on Monday. He claimed that a weapon and a contract (or “supari”) worth ₹2 lakh had been given to some people to kill Tiger Shroff.
Police took the threat seriously and launched an investigation. However, they soon found that the information was fake. A case was then registered at the Khar police station in Mumbai.
Mumbai Police contacted Punjab Police, who detained the man. He is now being brought to Mumbai for further questioning.
In a similar case last week, Bollywood actor Salman Khan received a threat from a man said to be “mentally unstable” from Gujarat’s Vadodara district. That message was sent to the Mumbai Traffic Police via WhatsApp.
Police have warned that making fake threat calls is a serious offense and will not be taken lightly.
