Punjab Launches Advanced Autism Care Centre’s OPD Services

The Advanced Autism Care and Research Centre in Sector 79, Mohali, launched its OPD services on Tuesday to mark World Autism Awareness Day. Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh inaugurated the facility and said it would become a leading center for autism treatment and research in the state.

The OPD services currently include speech therapy, sensory integration therapy, and play therapy. The clinical assessment room will be expanded, and more advanced services will be introduced soon.

The minister emphasized the importance of early intervention and specialized care for autistic children. He also announced that the government plans to introduce training sessions for parents and caregivers and set up hostel facilities for children requiring long-term care.

Citing examples of Elon Musk and Thomas Edison, both believed to have had autism, Dr. Balbir Singh highlighted that with the right support, autistic individuals can excel in various fields. He assured that the Punjab government would equip the center with modern amenities and ensure its timely completion.

The project is being run with the support of Dr. BR Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences, and officials have been directed to prioritize the remaining work.
