The Punjab Government has announced a high-security alert in the state after a terror attack happened in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday. The state is taking extra steps to protect people who may be at risk.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that security has been increased around important places like religious sites, public gathering areas, and schools or colleges that have students from Jammu and Kashmir.
After the attack, a meeting was held to discuss the security situation. It was attended by top officials, including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and heads of Intelligence and Vigilance departments.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that more checks are being done at the border with Jammu and Kashmir. Security has also been increased in busy areas to make people feel safe. He added that Punjab is working closely with J&K Police and national intelligence agencies. He blamed Pakistan for trying to create problems in India but said Punjab would strongly respond to any threats.
Chief Minister Mann said that because Punjab shares a 530 km border with Pakistan, it often faces trouble from across the border. He mentioned that drones are being used to smuggle drugs, weapons, and fake money into the state. Mann said gangsters and drug smugglers are working together and trying to disturb peace. He added that the state is ready to deal with any threats and will keep Punjabis safe.
He also said that the Punjab Government is working with the J&K Government to bring back Punjabis who are stuck in Kashmir safely.
