ਪੰਜਾਬ Govt to Hold Special Assembly Session on Drug Issue Next Week

The ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ, led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is planning to hold a special two-day session of the state Assembly next week to focus on the drug problem, according to official sources.

The session is likely to take place on July 10 and 11, with key topics including the state’s ongoing anti-drug campaign and the recent arrest of Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia. The arrest has sparked political debate, and the AAP ਸਰਕਾਰ aims to use the session to clarify its stance and highlight its efforts in the fight against drugs.

ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ Bhagwant Mann has called a meeting of the ਪੰਜਾਬ Council of Ministers on Monday morning, where the final decision on the session dates will be taken. However, insiders say the July 10–11 timeline is almost confirmed.

Since the last Vidhan Sabha session held on May 5 hasn’t been officially ended, the ਸਰਕਾਰ can call this new session without needing the Governor’s approval.

A senior official said the session is being planned to allow all political parties to share their views on the drug issue. It will also serve as a platform for the AAP ਸਰਕਾਰ to send a strong message about its commitment to tackling drug abuse in the state, especially in light of Majithia’s arrest on June 25.
