The Punjab Government has made it mandatory for all pet shops and dog breeders involved in the sale, purchase, and breeding of pet animals and birds to register with the authorities.
Those who violate the rules may face a fine of up to ₹50,000 and/or imprisonment for up to three months.
This move aims to ensure better regulation and welfare of animals in the state.
