The Punjab government will start a major public awareness campaign against drugs on Friday as part of its ongoing ‘War on Drugs’ effort. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal will lead the launch by holding a ‘Nasha Mukti Yatra’ (drug-free rally) in Nawanshahr.
This campaign is a key part of the ruling party’s Maha Jan Sampark Abhiyan, aimed at eliminating drug abuse in the state. Every day, gram sabhas (village meetings) will be organized in 351 villages to spread awareness. People will be encouraged not only to stay away from drugs but also to report drug smugglers and dealers to the police.
The plan is to reach three villages or city wards in each of Punjab’s 117 Vidhan Sabha constituencies daily, with a goal of covering 15,000 villages and urban wards.
In addition to awareness efforts, the government has been taking strict action against drug smugglers. This includes police encounters that have injured about 75 smugglers and the demolition of properties linked to the drug trade.
