Punjab: Cyber Fraud Gang Busted; 38 youths from Haryana-Uttarakhand arrested; they used to hack mobile phones by pretending to be bank employees.
A significant cyber fraud ring has been dismantled by Punjab’s Phagwara Police and Kapurthala Cyber Crime Team. Late at night, 38 persons were taken into custody in this operation. There are six ladies and thirty-two males among them.
The arrested accused’s network was dispersed throughout multiple states. These include Meghalaya, West Bengal, Punjab, Jammu-Kashmir, Haryana, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, and Nagaland.
The young people were using laptops to operate fictitious call centers out of a hotel party hall. They used to utilize phony apps and pose as bank staff in order to trick consumers.

In a hotel party hall, the defendants operated a phony call center where young people utilized laptops. They would phone customers and use screen-sharing apps to hack their personal devices while pretending to be workers of banks or IT companies. They would conduct online transactions and defraud victims out of lakhs of rupees after gaining access to bank account information and passwords.
From the scene, police have retrieved 40 laptops, 67 cell phones, and 10 lakh rupees in cash. An investigation has been started, and cases have been filed against each of the defendants.
