Punjab CM Mann Launches New Land Pooling Scheme for Farmers’ Long-Term Income

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced a new land pooling scheme on Thursday to help farmers earn a steady income, saying that farming is no longer a profitable business.

While speaking to farmers, CM Mann explained that the scheme aims to make farmers long-term partners in Punjab’s growth. He assured that no land would be taken forcefully — only those who willingly join the scheme will be part of it. In return, farmers will receive residential and commercial plots, along with compensation.

Mann also criticized some farmer union leaders, claiming they had become wealthy by misusing funds and were no longer truly representing farmers. He challenged these unions to have an open debate with him about the real issues farmers face today.

He further questioned why farmer unions have stayed silent about the issue of Punjab’s water being taken by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and Haryana. Instead, he said, they waste time blocking roads and railways over less important matters.

Mann also commented on internal tensions in the Akali Dal, saying senior leaders Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia are not even talking to each other, hinting at problems within the party.
