Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for frequently going on foreign visits, saying that the PM finds time to travel abroad but fails to address the problems of 140 crore Indians.
Speaking after a cabinet meeting, Mann made fun of Modi’s recent visit to countries like Ghana, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Namibia. He sarcastically said, “Don’t know if he has returned from Ghana yet. He is visiting countries like Magneshia, Galveshia, and Tarveshia,” and mocked that these countries have populations as small as 10,000.
Mann also joked about Modi receiving a top award in such a small country, saying, “In India, 10,000 people gather just to watch a JCB machine.” He further pointed out that Modi has not held a single press conference in 11 years.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly reacted to Mann’s remarks, calling them “irresponsible.” Without naming Mann directly, the MEA said that such comments by a “high state authority” damage India’s relations with friendly countries. They made it clear that the Government of India completely disapproves of such statements.
PM Modi returned to India on Thursday after completing a five-nation tour.
