Punjab and Haryana High Court Seeks Details on Shortage of Doctors in Government Hospitals

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the governments of Punjab, Haryana, and the Chandigarh administration to submit detailed information regarding the shortage of doctors in government hospitals.

The move comes as part of ongoing hearings related to the lack of medical staff in public healthcare facilities.

The court has scheduled a hearing on Monday to specifically address the issue of government doctors in Punjab. It has also asked that similar concerns in Haryana and Chandigarh be included under the same case.

A progress report on nearly 2,900 pending cases involving doctors must be submitted by August 19.

Additionally, a separate hearing at the municipal level has been set to look into matters related to doctors in a government hospital in Malerkotla.

The state government has been ordered to provide complete details about the number of doctors working in hospitals and dispensaries across the state by the end of August.

In the same proceedings, the High Court has also called for an inquiry into a fraud case involving an Indigo airline passenger and a ₹1 crore scam at Amritsar airport.
