ਪੰਜਾਬ and Haryana High Court Criticizes State ਸਰਕਾਰ for Failing to Tackle Growing Drug Menace

The ਪੰਜਾਬ and Haryana High Court has sharply criticized the ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ for its failure to control the escalating drug problem in the state, which the court described as severely undermining the future of the country. The court observed that young individuals, driven by drug addiction, were resorting to theft and other criminal activities to sustain their habit, highlighting the ਸਰਕਾਰ’s inability to address the issue.

Justice Sandeep Moudgil, who delivered the remarks, described the widespread drug abuse as “eroding the youth population, much like a termite,” and stressed the need for immediate and decisive action. He called the situation alarming, particularly in ਪੰਜਾਬ, where the youth’s future is being jeopardized by the drug epidemic.

The court emphasized that it was the duty of the judiciary to intervene, given the serious implications of the drug menace on the nation’s youth. Justice Moudgil called for resolute measures against offenders, underlining the importance of tackling the issue with utmost seriousness.

The remarks were made during the hearing of a case involving the recovery of 290 grams of heroin, which the court classified under the commercial category, making the offender subject to the provisions of Section 37 of the NDPS Act. The court ruled that it would not be just to release the petitioner, given the seriousness of the crime.
