Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond said the Punjab government is fully committed to turning the state into a major sports hub by building world-class sports infrastructure.
Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of a three-day cricket tournament at Principal Ramesh Chander Stadium in Khanna, the minister highlighted the ongoing efforts under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership. He mentioned that the ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ initiative is helping promote sports across the state in a big way.
He also shared that 13 Centres of Excellence are being upgraded with modern, advanced facilities to train athletes who can represent Punjab at national and international levels.
“This year, we’ve allocated Rs 979 crore to the Sports Department — the highest ever in Punjab’s history,” said Sond, calling it clear proof of the Aam Aadmi Party government’s strong focus on sports.
He said Punjab has plenty of talent, but many athletes haven’t been able to reach their full potential due to lack of proper facilities. “We’re changing that,” he said.
Sond also pointed out that getting youth involved in sports is a powerful way to fight drug abuse and mobile addiction, and will help build a healthier, more focused generation.
He praised the organizers of the cricket tournament and said such events are key to keeping young people engaged in positive activities and encouraging them to chase their dreams through sports.
