Punjab: Potholes on Roads to be Filled with $2,872 Crore; CM to Launch Today from Tarn Taran, Width to be Increased from 10 to 18 Feet.

The 19,000 km of link roads in Punjab are now in poor condition, and the government has made the decision to fix them. For five years, the corporation that constructs the roads will be in charge of maintaining them. The roadways’ width will be expanded from 10 to 18 feet.

All of the roads have already had their surveys finished. This project will be launched today from Tarn Taran by CM Bhagwant Mann. In this project, the government will serve as the Nodal Agency.

Since the countdown to the 2027 Assembly Elections has begun, the project is very significant to the Punjab government. The government has allocated ₹3,500 crore in total on these roads. Of this, ₹587 crore has been allocated for other relevant activities and ₹2,872 crore for maintenance and repairs.

Committee to Assess Quality
The government is totally committed to making sure that the quality of the roads is never compromised. To supervise the development of these roads, a coordination committee with representatives from both parties would be established. The floods that happened in the meantime caused the authorities to postpone the project’s August start date.
