A Second ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ Election Officer Asks Political Parties for Ideas on Polling Station Rationalisation

At the ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ Administrative Complex ਅੱਜ, Harpreet Singh, the Additional ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ Election Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), met with members of acknowledged political parties. He offered advice on how to rationalise polling places and employ agents at the booth level. The Election Commission of ਭਾਰਤ’s guidelines for the employment of booth-level agents were thoroughly explained by the Additional ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ Election Officer.

Booth-level agents should collaborate with their respective booth-level authorities, according to Additional ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ Election Officer Harpreet Singh. Booth-level agents should help residents complete the forms required for transfers, deletions, changes, and new voter registrations, he said. He explained that one or more ਲੋਕ in the BLA-1 proforma may be authorised by any recognised political party. A ਸਰਕਾਰ or local authority employee cannot operate as a booth-level agent, he continued.

Harpreet Singh went on to say that in order to rationalise polling locations, the Election Commission of ਭਾਰਤ has set a maximum of 1,200 ਲੋਕ per polling station. With almost 1,200 voters, the ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ has 23 voting places. To make sure voters don’t have to go far to cast their ballots, he asked members of political parties to submit their ideas if they wanted to build new polling places throughout the rationalisation process.

Along with election tehsildar Nirmala Rani, election kanungo Kulwinder Kaur, and election kanungo Rajpal Singh, the meeting was attended by Navdeep Singh Navi of the Aam Aadmi Party, Ashok Gautam of the Indian National Congress, Amit Jhanji of the Shiromani Akali Dal (B), and Mohan Singh Bhattmajra of the Bahujan Samaj Party. {Reported by: Arun Pathak}
