In a bid to strictly enforce the Model Code of Conduct during the Ludhiana West by-election, Ludhiana Police have seized a vehicle loaded with ration and registered a case against its driver.
The incident happened on the evening of June 18 in the Main Bazaar area of Sham Nagar, Ludhiana. Local residents stopped a canter (registration number PB10 HT 6152) after noticing it was carrying a large amount of ration. They alleged the ration was being distributed to sway voters in favour of a political party.
Police arrived quickly and began an investigation. Based on their initial findings, a case was registered against the driver, Amarjeet Singh alias Vicky, a resident of Ratanheri village in Khanna. He has been booked under Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for allegedly attempting to bribe voters.
The ration and the vehicle have been seized. Police said the investigation is still ongoing.
