In Amritsar, an early morning encounter took place between the police and a criminal. During the exchange of fire, the accused was shot in the leg and was immediately caught by the police. He has been admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital for treatment.
The encounter happened around 4:30 AM near Company Garden, right in front of the old Bachha Ward. As part of the investigation, police have closed the road from Crystal Chowk towards Bachha Ward.
At first, the police did not reveal the identity of the accused, but later he was identified as Harpreet Singh, who was wanted in cases of snatching and extortion.
Senior police officials, including the Police Commissioner, are expected to visit the spot and share more details soon. Police are currently inspecting the area.
